a)    CRUDE PALM OIL("CPO")

Palm oil, the world's major source of vegetable oil, is extracted from the fruits of the oil palm tree. Palm oil is cholesterol-free. Having a naturally semi-solid characteristic at room temperature with a melting point between 33ºC to 39ºC, it does not require hydrogenation for use as a food ingredient.

CPO is deep orange red in colour due to the high content of natural carotenes. It is a rich source of carotenoids and vitamin E which confer natural stability against oxidative deterioration.

Fractionation separates the oil into liquid and solid fractions. CPO can be fractionated into liquid (olein) and solid (stearin) components.

CPO has a balanced ratio of unsaturated and saturated fatty acids. It contains 40% oleic acid (monounsaturated fatty acid), 10% linoleic acid (polyunsaturated fatty acid ), 45% palmitic acid and  5% stearic acid (saturated fatty acid). This composition results in an edible oil that is suitable for use in a variety of food applications.

b)    PALM KERNEL

Palm kernel is one of the main products extracted from the seeds of the oil palm fruit.

c)    BIOMASS

Under the Small Renewable Energy Programme (“SREP”), the Government of Malaysia has implemented a programme to encourage private entity to generate power with renewable fuels and to sell part or all of the power generated to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (“TNB”) and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (“SESB”). The objectives of the SREP are not only to help increase efficiency in the use of fossil fuels but also to reduce the financial burden of electricity generation on TNB and SESB in terms of investment in electricity generation and distribution.

Residues from agricultural activities or production processes are the type of fuel strongly recommended by the SREP, as their combustion provides triple benefits to the country. It reduces environmental pollution and the cost of waste disposal and helps to save expenditure on both indigenous and imported fossil fuels.

Agriculture waste such as palm oil waste has a reasonable and rather constant heat value and moisture content and this makes it a reliable biomass fuel. A subsidiary of CGB, namely Cash Horse (M) Sdn Bhd, will build a 12 Megawatt Biomass Power Plant at Prolific Yield Palm Oil Mill located in Sandakan, Sabah under the SREP. The Project is intended to generate electricity utilising the oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) as primary fuel to be supplemented with secondary fuels such as oil palm shells, mesocarp fibres and wood wastes. The electricity generated will be sold to SESB's distribution grid.

As the electricity is generated by using renewable resources instead of fossil fuels, which will reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, the Project qualifies as a Clean Development Mechanism ("CDM") project under the Kyoto Protocol. The reductions in greenhouse gas emissions achieved by this project, also known as Certified Emissions Reductions , will be sold to interested parties to meet their commitments on emission reductions under the Kyoto Protocol.

d)    BIOGAS

Another subsidiary of CGB, namely Mistral Engineering Sdn Bhd, will build a 3 Megawatt Biogas Power Plant also at Prolific Yield Palm Oil mill in Sandakan, Sabah.

The Project will generate power by capturing the methane gas from the palm oil mill effluent ("POME") and utilising the gas as fuel.

As power is generated by using renewable resources, instead of fossil fuels, through the trapping of methane gas that would have otherwise  been released by the POME to the atmosphere, this also qualifies as a CDM project and its Certified Emissions Reductions can also be sold to interested parties participating in the Kyoto Protocol.

e)    ACHIEVEMENT

CGB was selected as one of the top 100 companies in the 2008th edition of the handbook entitled "TOP MALAYSIAN SMALL CAP COMPANIES" (100 Hidden Jewels) published by OSK Research Sdn Bhd.
